Snow Day!

March 21st and it is a Snow Day in Eugene!  Even the University of Oregon was delayed until 1:00pm.  We woke up to snow everywhere, our front tree damaged and Joey dying to go outside!  Joey is now on his third time outside!  He has yet to go to school this week as he was recovering from a lower respiratory infection and now a no school day.  This third go round outside, he is on a 30 minute timer as we don't want to tire him out too much too soon! I ended up getting a snow day which has been great for me because I am fighting a horrible cold.  I managed to sneak in a little nap and a lot of reading on the recliner.  It has not been a productive week in the Rubino house!  Here are some photos I took of Joey and the neighbor kids when they were all outside from about 8-9am!
 One very happy kid!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!  We are having a lazy Saturday!  Actually I brought out a bunch of the Easter decorations and so Joey has been busy having egg hunts all day.  He took a break for a short nap as tonight we are off to Mimi and Uncles for a St. Patrick's Day party!  Finnegan the leprechaun snuck into our house and left Joey and note and a bunch of gold rolo's all over his bedroom.
 Kiss me I'm Irish!

Basketball (last game)

Joey had his last basketball on this past Saturday March 10th.  His team had the first game of the day at 9:30am!  They played great and I was so proud of Joey.  He is good teammate and he has improved so much since the first game.  He has been playing basketball since early November.  After the game his team went to Papa's Pizza and had a little party.  He got a ribbon and a basketball pin and his coach said so many nice things about him, I was again, so proud!  Joey and his teammates had a blast in the play area at the pizza place and the parents got a chance to visit.  Next up, Rookie Minors Baseball, starts on Tuesday!

Harlem Globetrotters!

On Friday February 24th Joey went with Daddy and Uncle Kevin to the Harlem Globetrotters.  This is the second year in a row that they have gone to see the Globetrotters.  I got to stay home alone and have a quiet dinner and watch a movie!  From what I have heard it was an awesome time and Joey loved every minute of it.  He took his basketball that Uncle Kevin bought him last year and came home with it full of autographs.  He also came in the door with the jersey of his favorite player "Dizzy".  Thanks again to Uncle Kevin.  Maybe I can get Dave to log on and tell us all more about the evening, but for now, here are the photos I took when they got home!

 Checking out all the autographs.

A Haircut!

Here is a picture of Joey last-night just before bedtime.  As you can see, Joey has been growing his hair out.  His best friend Drew has an older brother Dawson who has longer hair and Joey wants his hair exactly like Dawson's!  Today I took him to my stylist Danielle at Modern Betty's (who I very highly recommend)! She knew exactly how Joey wanted his hair because Dawson gets his hair cut there too.  She did a great job, was super patient with me and she was trying so hard to give Joey the haircut he wanted and me the haircut I wanted for him!  Of course I kept telling her to take a little more off everywhere!  She also gave me some great advice.  She said that when a kid knows what kind of haircut they want, you have to try to give them what they want because if you do the opposite and cut it different, they will never ever want to get their haircut!  It was good advice for me because I realized that even though he wants to try to grow it out and have it longer I really wanted it much shorter!  Here is the end result and I think he looks pretty darn good! Danielle even took the time to show Joey how to comb his hair in the morning before school (we'll see if that happens!.

Basketball!

Joey has been  playing basketball since January and it has been a lot of fun watching him and his team.  This time around he is playing YMCA basketball and it is a little different as they have referees and they call traveling and some fouls!  I feel like they are improving with every game and there is just something fun about watching first graders play basketball!  I have been having some issues trying to get basketball actions shots with the camera.  It just is not working and so the ones I am about to post are the best from the season to date.  I take a ton and I feel like I end up deleting the majority of them because they are too blurry. It has been frustrating.   Joey seems to be really enjoying basketball. He is excited for his games and for practice.  One of his favorite things at practice is when he gets to be "skins" and go shirtless.  He is playing with a great group of first graders from his school and two dads are coaching them and doing a fantastic job.  Go Irish!
About to take a shot (and he made it)!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!  Joey had a day full of fun at school and I got to join him for lunch.  I got to bring him a special lunch which was a McDonald's Happy Meal!  I felt like before I could blink Joey was done with his lunch, he ate everything!  We then spent some time at the book fair at his school where he picked out 2 books and an OSU Beaver poster.  Joey got a star wars lego from Mom and Dad and a bunch of great Valentine's from his friends at school.
